Expect a rap lesson from Schoolboy Q when this year's break out hip-hop star lands in New Zealand for two shows.
The Man of the Year rapper is set to perform at Auckland's Studio on Friday, June 13; the second concert is at Wellington's James Cabaret on Saturday, June 14.Isaiah Rashad will be playing support.
The German-born, Los Angeles-based hip-hop star - real name Quincy Matthew Hanley - released his third album Oxymoron to critical acclaim, and hit No 1 in the US on debut thanks to his hit single Collard Greens.
That song featured a guest spot from Kendrick Lamar - a rapper Schoolboy Q is often compared to.
But his recent album shows he's crafted his own intimidating style of husky thug-rap, especially on the Pharrell-produced stunner Los Awesome and recent single Break the Bank.
TimeOut reviewer Chris Schulz awarded the album three-and-a-half stars, saying its best bits came when Schoolboy Q stopped detailing his gangster rap credentials and added a woozy club vibe to proceedings, as he does on tracks Hell of a Night, Studio, and The Purge.
They're moments that are bound to go down well at his upcoming shows, tickets for which go on sale on Monday, March 31 through www.dashtickets.co.nz.
