Tour news: Alan Davies

Comedian Alan Davies is set to perform in New Zealand in July.

His last tour here was called Life is Pain but it seems Alan Davies will be in a bit of a better mood when he visits again in July.

The British comedian and star of television shows QI and Jonathan Creek will perform 11 shows here in July and August as part of his much more optimistically titled Little Victories tour.

When he was last here in 2013, Davies had resurrected his stand-up career after a 10-year break to work on his various television commitments.

At the time, he told the Herald he had "lost my comedy mojo" for performing stand-up.

"I think I'd fallen out of love with it really, I didn't have the drive to do it. I didn't enjoy touring by myself. I used to enjoy all the camaraderie of the other comedians in the clubs and stuff. I kind of fell out of love with it and I was doing other things."

But sold-out shows and overwhelmingly positive reviews showed there was plenty of demand to see the occasionally controversial 48-year-old comic. A Herald reviewer wrote that his 2013 show was "cheery, silly and quick-witted" and said: "Your jaw will hurt from laughter."

Davies will perform at Regent on Broadway in Palmerston North on July 21, Napier's Municipal Theatre on July 22, Hamilton's Founders Theatre on July 23, the Auckland Town Hall on July 24, the Bruce Mason Centre on July 25, Dunedin's Regent Theatre on July 27, Queenstown's Memorial Centre on July 28, Invercargill's Civic Theatre on July 29, the Horncastle in Christchurch on July 31, Wellington's Opera House on August 1, and the TSB Theatre in New Plymouth on August 3.

Tickets go on sale on February 12, with a My Live Nation pre-sale beginning on February 10.
