SUMMER OF SAM
Herald rating: * * * *
Director Spike Lee's story of paranoia, set in 1977 in a New York-Italian community and against a backdrop of fear generated by power blackouts, a heat wave and the very real "Son of Sam" murders by serial killer David Berkowitz. All of New York is in a state of confusion - so much so that people are regarding their closest friends with suspicion. Starring Adrien Brody and John Leguizamo, the overall tone is reminiscent of Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets. (1999)
