The presidential candidates literally just argued about the Emmy Trump never got

An old wound opened up for Donald Trump at today's presidential election, in which Hilary Clinton reminded everyone of that time he didn't win an Emmy.

The democratic candidate said: "Every time Donald thinks things are not going in his direction, he claims whatever it is is rigged against him. The FBI conducted a year-long investigation into my e-mails. They concluded there was no case. He said the FBI was rigged.

"He lost the Iowa caucus. He lost the Wisconsin primary ... He said the Republican primary was rigged against him. Then Trump University gets sued for fraud and racketeering. He claims the court system and the federal judge is rigged against him.

"There was even a time when he didn't get an Emmy for his TV programme three years in a row and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged."

Then, before Clinton could finish her speech, Trump interrupted with a snide: "Should've gotten it".

Trump's reality show The Apprentice was nominated for Emmys in 2004, 2005 and 2006 and then again in 2009 for outstanding reality-competition series but lost - much to Trump's dismay.

In an Apprentice episode from 2015 (a decade after the fact) Trump said: "I got screwed out of an Emmy ... Everybody thought I was gonna win it. In fact, when they announced the winner, I stood up before the winner was announced. And I started walking for the Emmy."

The Amazing Race won instead and Trump has spent years in between now and then tweeting against the Awards, as shown here by tweets dug up from Trump's feed by America Blog.

In the end, Hillary Clinton wrapped up her point in the debate by saying: "This is a mindset. This is how Donald thinks."
