The sequel to the erotic thriller Fifty Shades of Grey
Perves of the world rejoice: The director of the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel is cooking something up to make it a very, ahem, interesting viewing experience.
Director James Foley, brought on board to direct Fifty Shades Darker when the director of the original film bowed out, has revealedthat he's using virtual reality (VR) technology while filming the movie.
"After we finished shooting for the day, the actors would stay over and VR people would re-create a facsimile of the scene," Deadline reports him as saying.
Christian Grey in immersive 3D might be closer than you think.
We'll leave it to your imaginations which scenes in particular from the franchise, infamous for its racy bondage sex scenes, Foley and his team are recreating using VR.
"My own personal instinct is that cinema is going to move to VR because it's an extension of the visual language," he said. "For myself, watching the material they generated expanded my brain."
Sounds filthy. At this stage, don't expect an immersive X-rated experience if you see the film at a cinema, as the technology's not there to support it - instead, the VR footage is being filmed for use in marketing and promotional materials for the film, which is set for release in February next year.

The first Fifty Shades film, released last year, overcame almost universally woeful reviews to reap almost half a billion dollars at the box office worldwide.
