Police are now treating the recent death of Perry Bamonte, former The Cure guitarist and keyboardist, as “unexplained” – a development his widow calls “complete and utter nonsense”.
While it was initially reported the 65-year-old had died on Christmas Eve after a battle with bowel cancer, a probe into thecircumstances of his death began on January 23, according to the Daily Mail.
Police have confirmed the death has been recategorised as “unexplained but not suspicious”.
Blood tests were reportedly drawn and an examination undertaken ahead of Bamonte’s cremation last week following a call from a concerned family member.
A source told the Sun the musician’s death had been unexpected as he was “not widely thought to be at death’s door” despite his illness.
