Most people would think it was simply the night of a full moon - but when Victoria Beckham spotted a bright orb outside her Los Angeles home she instinctively knew what is was ... a UFO.

The former Spice Girl quickly grabbed a picture of the Beverly Hills phenomenon and the following day posted it on Twitter with the message: "UFO hovering above our house last night!!!! X vb."

Victoria's Beverly Hills hairstylist Ken Paves also witnessed the object hovering over the Beckhams' mansion and tweeted: "UFO hovering above Beckham's house. Grab the kids Victoria and RUN-RUN!"

But many of her followers seemed much more sceptical. One tweeted: "Someone want to tell Victoria Beckham that "UFO" is the moon?"

Another joked: "Is David okay?"

And another suggested: "The paparazzi are getting creative."

Victoria's PR agent said: "I don't know anything about it."

The 37-year-old mother of four is not the first celebrity to allegedly spot a UFO in LA.

Former Take That singer Robbie Williams famously studied them after reporting sightings there. And Miley CyrusÕs father Billy Ray recently tweeted: "My first UFO sighting. Looks like five or six disc-like shapes hovering."

It also isn't the first time the moon has been mistaken for a UFO. Last week police released a recording of a 999 caller in Hertfordshire reporting a UFO. Ringing back moments later, the caller said: "You won't believe this - it's the moon."
