He said British Winslet did such a great impression of the accent, he kept forgetting she was only in character.
"The Australian accent I feel like is one of the hardest accents to do on the planet. Any time anyone else does it you always know, if you're an Australian."
Hemsworth also said he was sad to be wrapping up the fourth and final Hunger Games film, Mockingjay - Part 2, which comes out in about a month.
He had become very close with co-stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
"It's been such a great journey and I'm so fortunate to have come out of it with two of my best friends in the world, Jennifer and Josh," he said.
"For the last four years or five years we've always had the next one to come back to. All of a sudden we don't. It's bitter-sweet for sure."
The Dressmaker is in cinemas from October 29.
