The women in the original Star Wars trilogy, excluding leading lady Princess Leia, speak for a total of just 63 seconds.
This equates to 0.2 per cent of all spoken dialogue in the three blockbuster films, released between 1977 and 1983.
This astonishing, or not so, piece of trivia isexposed in a a supercut video, titled Women Don't Talk Much in Star Wars, put together by Vulture.com.
The three women besides Leia with speaking roles include Luke Skywalker's Aunt Beru, whose most famous line is "Luke", Rebel leader Mon Mothma and an unnamed Rebel soldier.
"Many Bothans died to bring us this information," Mon Mothma, played by English actress Caroline Blakiston, speaks in one scene.
The upcoming new trilogy, however, beginning with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will buck this gender bias trend with character Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, touted as the series' new lead.
