That really sucks: Mike Hosking reveals birthday presents

His love of cleanliness is well documented and this year Mike Hosking was given the perfect birthday presents.

Hosking, who turned 51 on Sunday, received not one but two vacuum cleaners.

The Newstalk ZB host and Seven Sharp presenter, was gifted a hand-held vacuum by wife Kate Hawkesby, his radio colleagues later presented him with a new Dyson.

Hosking's passion for vacuuming became infamous last year when a local gossip site filmed him cleaning out his Ferrari on a busy Remuera Rd.

The breakfast presenter was unaware of the surprise he would get on Monday morning when a Dyson "thing-a-me-bob" appeared in studio.

"What is it? Have you got me a vacuum? Oh my lord, how exciting is that? Did you get that just for me?" Hosking said on air.

"What I said in the meeting last week is if somebody went and bought me a Dyson I would vacuum the studio everyday, and I'm happy to adhere to that...

"We are going to clean it up, we are going to be spotless and beautiful...I will now vacuum the studio every morning as a direct result of you purchasing me a beautiful Dyson vacuum cleaner...now turn it off..."

It wasn't an original gift, Hosking revealed his wife had already given him a vacuum of the same brand with "massive extensions" the day before.

That didn't dampen his enthusiasm for the present: "Two Dysons in one year, how lucky am I?" he said.

Hosking proceeded to make good on his promise by hoovering the studio in his loafers.
