Tears of joy as Bindi Irwin wins America's Dancing with the Stars

After an emotional journey, Bindi Irwin has twirled her way to victory on the US version of Dancing with the Stars.

The 17-year-old Aussie and her dancing partner Derek Hough were crowned champions of the reality TV show on Wednesday afternoon after receiving a perfect score of 30 for their final dance routine.

"Thank you so much for everything, I can't believe that I am here and just thank you for changing my life," an ecstatic Irwin said.

Irwin's journey on the show has captivated US audiences for the last three months.

During the show, she moved the judges and the crowd to tears with a dedication to her Crocodile Hunter dad, who died in 2006.

Fans inspired by Irwin took to social media to congratulate her.

"Absolutely brilliant tonight. You did your Dad proud," Cindi Swoyer posted on the DWTS Facebook page.

"I watched you as a little girl. So proud," said Jessica Lamping.

Karen Kall wrote Bindi was "sheer perfection", while Denise McCullough thanked the Aussie for being an inspiration.

"Bindi, thank you for showing me the true meaning of taking whatever life throws at me and turning it into a positive!" she posted.

Bill Spano said he and his wife had been touched by Irwin's journey.

"We know god has angels on earth and believe you are one of his best works," he wrote.
