Lady Gaga remained true to the Star-Spangled Banner during her performance before the 2016 annual Super Bowl today.
Lady Gaga says it was a "dream come true" singing the American national anthem at today's Super Bowl.
She belted out The Star-Spangled Banner during the annual sporting event, which takes place at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California today (NZ time), in what she described as one of the"highest honours" of her career.
The singer channeled her inner patriot in a glittering red pantsuit and eye shadow, striped platforms and blue nails for the occasion.
Gaga didn't miss a beat during the emotionally charged rendition which had every fan in the stadium on their feet cheering and whistling.
She finished on a perfectly executed note, as six US Navy Blue Angels flew in formation overhead.
With tears in her eyes and a hand to her heart Gaga added, "God bless you America".
She spoke with the NFL Network before taking the stage, saying: "It's such an honour, and a total dream come true.
"I've always wanted to sing the national anthem at a major sporting event ever since I was a little girl, and for it to be the Super Bowl... it is the ultimate. This is one of the highest honours of my career.
"I get a chance to sing for all the athletes who have been working so hard their whole life for this moment."
The 29-year-old stayed very true to the tune to ensure it stands the "test of time".
"I think the best way to do that is kind of forget about yourself and just focus on what it means. ... I'm really singing it from the heart and I'm also singing it really very true to the way that it was written, because I think that's when it sounds its most majestic."
But Gaga won't be cheering either the Carolina Panthers or Denver Broncos on to victory.
She insisted: I am here to root for everybody. I'm interested in watching the throw down."
Fans and famous folk alike took to Twitter to show their appreciation for Gaga's show-stopping Star-Spangled Banner.
