Stephen Colbert has recorded his own Johnny Depp apology video

Comedian Stephen Colbert has recorded his own hilarious version of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's awkward apology video.

The celebrity couple have been ridiculed around the world for their apology which came after Heard was handed a one-month good behaviour bond in a Gold Coast court for bringing her pet dogs Pistol and Boo to Australia undeclared.

In Colbert's version, he is dressed as Depp sitting next to a woman who resembles Heard.

"Australia is an island surrounded by sharks and kangaroos and blooming onions," the woman says.

"I am truly sorry that on a recent visit to your country we failed to declare our dogs Sparkles, Lurch and Colonel Dogface."

Colbert chimes in with his own admission of flouting Australia's biosecurity laws.

"Nor did we declare my colony of parakeets whom I rightfully call The Funky Bunch, nor my two 500-pound feral hogs Miles and Fraiser. It was wrong, even if they are service animals, which they are not," Colbert says.

Colbert doesn't forget to reference Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce who quickly posted Depp and Heard's video to his Facebook page on Monday.

"Australia is truly a lovely lady and that goes double for the angry men who make me do these videos," Colbert says.

And Colbert has one more thing to declare.

"I would also like to state this woman is not my wife and I am truly sorry for smuggling her into your country," Colbert says.

To close the mock apology, Colbert promises "to further honour your proud island of exiled British degenerates" with a performance of the "national anthem".

Meanwhile, late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has also addressed the apology on his show.

"This is uncomfortable to watch," Kimmel said after playing a clip of the apology.

"Let's run the rest of it through a snapchat filter and see if it's better that way."

Comedian Ricky Gervais weighed in on Depp and Heard's performance tweeting: "The Johnny Depp apology feels like a hostage video".
