The weather meant previous turnouts weren't challenged - but organisers say they are thrilled with the crowd at the Coca-Cola Christmas in the Park.
Kiwi musicians and brother-sister duo Broods were the headline act for the 21st anniversary performances at a wet Auckland Domain on Saturday.
Spokeswoman Deborah Delaney said they did not have a crowd estimate, but it was "significant" and impressive given the rain.
"As the event went on the crowd just got bigger and bigger as people realised it was still happening ... there was still a massive crowd."
Many packed a poncho, umbrella and gumboots with a picnic hamper for the night of entertainment, hosted by broadcaster John Campbell and this year supporting Youthline.
Other performers included Tami Neilson, Nyree Burt, Barry Southgate, Lavina Williams, Andrew Papas, and Ria Hall.

Police, Auckland Council and Coca-Cola again agreed to a complete alcohol ban, the second in the concert's 21-year history.
Spark said more than 7.5GB of mobile data was uploaded by customers at the concert - the equivalent of more than 15,000 photos going up on Instagram.
That usage peaked when the Broods - not Santa - took the stage.
Across town, organisers estimated around 18,000 turned up for Auckland's first Raggamuffin festival.
The headliners at Henderson's Trusts Stadium were the rap group Cypress Hill.
The festival was previously held in Rotorua, but has moved north in a bid to pick up more ticket sales.
