Stars send condolences as final photo of Nick Cave's son emerges

News of the death of Nick Cave's son Arthur has prompted an outpouring of grief from celebrities and the world of showbiz.

The 15-year-old died after falling from a cliff at Brighton on the south coast of England.

"Our son Arthur died on Tuesday evening. He was our beautiful, happy loving boy," Cave and his wife, model Susie Bick, said in a statement issued by Sussex Police on Wednesday.

"We ask that we be given the privacy our family needs to grieve at this difficult time."

Russell Crowe was one of the first to express his sadness for the rock star and his family.

"I can't bear the thought of the grief the Cave family are going through at the moment. My heart is breaking for all of them," Crowe tweeted.

Lisa Wilkinson, the Today host for the Nine Network, also expressed her condolences.

"Tragic news from the UK where the 15 yo son of Australian musician Nick Cave, Arthur, has died in a Brighton cliff fall. No suspicious circ." she tweeted.

Several people from the world of music seemed shocked and saddened for Cave.

"My sincere condolences go out to @nickcave and his family, such sad news to wake up to. From my family to yours, may your son RIP," Aussie singer Marcia Hines tweeted.

Matty Healy, the lead singer from popular British band The 1975, said his thoughts "go out to Nick Cave today. So terribly sad xx," he tweeted.

Irish folk musician Glen Hansard kept his message short and heartfelt: "Condolences to Nick Cave.. Bless.."

Aussie singer-songwriter and actor Eddie Perfect was quick to tweet soon after the news broke on Wednesday.

"Hearing some terrible news that Nick Cave's son Arthur has died. So awful for Arthur who was so young and had so much to do," he tweeted.

Ben Watt, one half of British band Everything But The Girl, felt Cave's loss deeply as he too is a father to twins.

"Spent all day thinking about Nick Cave. We've got teenage twins. Unbearable. Never met him but thinking of him," Watt tweeted.
