American actor Josh Gad has revealed his friend's son died in the Florida school massacre, and has led the call among Hollywood celebrities for tighter gun control laws.
The Frozen favourite wrote a heart-wrenching tweet overnight upon finding out about the death of his friend's son, after earlier revealing: "Achild of one of our friend's has a bullet in his chest and is (in a) critical condition because a 19 year old had access to military weapon. Pretend it's normal. It's not."
He made a series of posts detailing what he planned to do in the wake of the shooting, including educating himself, remaining a voice of reason, and supporting "every single person who challenges a politician with NRA money behind them".
Last night, I received a text while I slept that our friend’s son passed away from his gun shot wound. My grief for this family and the many others knows no bounds. I’m so sorry this happened. I’m so sorry our leaders are worthless. I’m so sorry we are bound to repeat this again.
6) And finally I am going to remember the 17 dead, the many injured, and the thousands of others who have senselessly lost their lives to gun violence and I am going to fight in their name so that other parents and siblings never have to expiereince such trauma.
Gad is joined by a host of fellow celebrities in calling for gun control, including Kim Kardashian, Ellen DeGeneres and Reese Witherspoon.
They all took to social media to speak out after yesterday's Florida school shooting in which expelled student Nikolas Cruz, 19, returned to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School armed with an assault rifle and opened fire at students and teachers.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel earlier said that the suspect had at least one AR-15 rifle and multiple magazines.
I hope all of our representatives know that the American people expect them to work the will of the people. We need gun safety laws. NOW. Republicans/Democrats. This is not about partisan politics. It's about our children & communities & we will vote for people who care about US. pic.twitter.com/SuZnYGj1vX
Please stop this madness. Enact sensible gun laws. #Parkland "How many deaths will it take till we know that too many CHILDREN have died?" @bobdylan@HouseGOP Stop the @NRA
No words, no actions, no laws are enough until we end this epidemic of school shootings in our country. My heart is with the students and parents of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
We owe it to our children and our teachers to keep them safe while at school. Prayers won't do this: action will. Congress, please do your job and protect Americans from senseless gun violence
Prayers without accordant action are silent lies told to oneself, heard by no God, amounting to nothing. Action is the language of truth, the prayers of the Saints.
The 18th school shooting in the US since January. It is heartbreaking. What will it take to change our nation’s gun laws ??? @Everytown@MomsDemand#FloridaHighSchool
