Spy: Will Lorde clean up at NZ Music Awards?

Thursday's Vodafone NZ Music Awards will make Lorde's ascension into pop music royalty complete. She's up for five gongs and is expected to win several big awards. Crucially, she'll be able to toast her success legally.

This time last year Lorde was a shy 17-year-old on the verge of pop super-stardom. She performed at the music awards and although she picked up two awards, her album Pure Heroine was released too late to be included. At last year's Universal after party she arrived at the same time as Auckland's boys in blue - but there will be no such worries this year, as she turned 18 earlier this month.

Lorde isn't performing this year, but is expected to make at least two outfit changes between the red carpet, the awards and the after party. And after her appearance at The Hunger Games in London this week, her fashion choices will be closely watched by the industry.

She wore a black tuxedo with a Maverick bowtie and 80s harem pants to the movie's red-carpet premiere, changing into the 80s-inspired black Noe bra top by Welsh designer Jamie King, with a zip jacket and thigh-high split skirt, for the after party.

She wore Zambesi last year to the VNZMAs and Spy spotted Lorde's posse, including boyfriend James Lowe, talking to Zambesi daughter Marissa Findlay at the Outlandish party at Euro on Wednesday night. A sign?

After Lorde, all eyes will be on brother and sister group Broods. Georgia Nott will wear an amazing custom-made Liam gown and her brother Caleb is said to be wearing Stolen Girlfriends Club.

Spy is told the Universal after-party is the hot ticket for this year's awards - there are competitions to get on the door list. The venue is a closely kept secret, but Lorde, Broods, Sol3 Mio, David Dallas and Ladi6 are all tipped to appear.
