Just back from Argentina, Richie McCaw wasted no time fitting another helicopter escape into his busy schedule.
This time, the former All Blacks captain headed to Great Mercury Island for his charity iSport Foundation, the children in sport fundraising initiative he started with his friends Dan Carter and Carter's newmedia manager at Racing 92, Ali Williams.
McCaw was honouring an auction item bought for $32,000 at August's fundraising event celebrating the 148-test veteran and Carter, in support of their foundation.
The auction item featured lunch for six with McCaw at Sir Michael Fay's island, including return helicopter rides.
Sir Michael's private helicopter pilot flew guests to Pikes Point, where they enjoyed some of the world's rarest wines at his stunning private haven. Spy understands Sir Michael co-hosted with McCaw.
The successful bidders included a group of society women who enjoyed the fine wine and company. They posted a picture to social media supporting McCaw's charity by hashtagging the picture #iSport.
The sight delighted Auckland's Eastern Suburbs' well-heeled members who gave high-fives to their girlfriends.
Spy contacted a couple of the women posing with McAwesome and asked if McCaw and the wine were worth the money?
