South Park rewrites episode after predicting the election wrong

South Park has rewritten its latest episode after incorrectly predicting Hillary Clinton would win Wednesday's US presidential election.

Variety reports South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone had called the episode 'The Very First Gentleman' - a reference to Clinton.

But the episode's tagline has since changed to be called, 'Oh Jeez'.

Parker and Stone are known for changing episodes at the last minute, and a Cartoon Network spokesperson told Variety it wasn't unusual for changes to be made the day before an episode airs.

After Wednesday's shock election result, a series of dismayed messages was sent out through South Park's Twitter account.

South Park is currently airing its 20th season.
