Snoop Dogg watches Game of Thrones for "historic reasons".

The 43-year-old hip-hop icon has revealed himself to be a huge fan of the HBO fantasy drama - which features giant dragons and magic - but he mistakenly thinks the show is historically accurate.

He said: "I watch it for historic reasons, to try to understand what this world was based on before I got here.

"I like to know how we got from there to here and the similarities between then and now."

The rapper was recently asked to produce music for the series five mixtape of the show and he said it was a pleasure to be approached.

Snoop told the New York Post newspaper: "When they asked me to do the track, I was more than honoured because I'm truly a fan of the show.

"I would have done it for free but they gave me some money on top of it, so I was like, 'F**k it, let's do it'."

Meanwhile, Snoop claimed recently that he feels like Popeye when he smokes marijuana.

The rapper compared the drug to the cans of spinach which the animated character eats to become strong.

Asked whether smoking marijuana is conducive to a productive career, he said: "The weed doesn't take away; it's an attribute, an accolade. It's like Popeye. You know Popeye the Sailor Man? He'd squeeze that can and pop that spinach and go into work mode. That's what this is."
