My first job was: answering phones for an elevator company. Nice to see that history degree didn't go to waste!

It taught me… that I wasn't cut out for customer service.

My big break came… when I won a national comedy competition for newcomers at the Edinburgh Festival back in 1999.

The last job I quit was… I gave up answering phones at the elevator company the day after I won the competition. As I was leaving, my boss sarcastically said, "Good luck with the comedy." Everybody laughed. I was already nailing this.

The most famous person I've ever met is… I guess the Queen is quite famous? I've actually met her twice and was arrogant (and foolish) enough the second time to ask if she remembered me. "Yes, of course," she replied, but we both knew that was a lie.

She was... just as you'd expect. Well spoken. Impeccable manners.

The best time I've had on stage was… I was once introduced on stage by Kermit the Frog. I've tried to get the rights to show the footage at the start of every show, but it would cost more than putting on the show itself.

But the worst was… I took a gig in the early days, which turned out to be a private booking for a Christmas dinner at someone's house. It was one of the most awkward gigs I remember. After 20 minutes of silence from the table, I just said, "Merry Christmas" and walked out the front door. I didn't even wait to get paid.
