Sir Cliff Richard has revealed he was diagnosed with cancer just before his trip to New Zealand.
He told Good Morning Britain he found out he had prostate cancer during a routine insurance check before his Can’t Stop Me Now tour down under.
“I was going to Australia and NewZealand and the promoter said, ‘well, we need your insurance, so you need to be checked up for something’. They found that I had... prostate cancer.
“But the good fortune was that it was not very old, and the other thing is that it had not metastasised. It hadn’t moved, nothing into bones or anything like that. And the cancer’s gone at the moment.”
The 85-year-old said a national screening programme would help pick up cancer early, expressing his hopes to work with King Charles on the rollout.
“I think we, as men, have got to start saying, we’ve got to be seen as human beings who may die of this thing.
“I’ve been involved with many charities over the years and if the King is happy to front it for us, I’m sure loads of people, I certainly would join him.”
The UK National Screening Committee recommended against national screening in November, instead suggesting a targeted scheme for men who have the genetic mutation BRCA-1 and BRCA-2, according to the St. Albert Gazette.
