Sinead O'Connor is receiving treatment after posting a possible suicide note on Facebook.

The Irish singer wrote of "apalling cruelty" and said "this week has broken me" before saying she was in a hotel on her own.

Police had found the singer and were giving her assistance, the Daily Mail reported.

O'Connor had shocked fans with the post, which detailed an alleged custody battle over her children and problems with surgery for her hysterectomy.

Worried fans quickly posted messages of support for the singer, best known for her 1990 cover of Prince's Nothing Compares 2 U.

"I hope you find help, and are able to get through this difficult situation. Sometimes we can't do it all on our own. The dark clouds can become overwhelming, but with help you will start to see the rays of sunshine," wrote one concerned fan.

"I know it's hard, but never stop fighting," wrote another.
