Arachnophobes better steer clear
A species of "base jumping" spiders has been discovered in the rainforest of Peru and Panama jumping from the tops of trees down to the lower foliage. They have a flat, aerodynamic shape, and have evolved to steer themselves as they fall, eventually thwacking back onto the tree trunks without hurting themselves. They're also camouflaged to look like bark, so you'll never see them coming. (Source: LiveScience) See spider jump here.
