Shia LaBeouf mugshot released after New Orleans Mardi Gras fight

Shia LaBeouf’s mugshot has been released after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting Mardi Gras partygoers.

The Transformers actor is alleged to have attacked two men during Mardi Gras celebrations after “terrorising New Orleans” with five nights of boozing and antics.

LaBeouf allegedly made homophobic slurs to two men, one in drag and the other identifying as gay, and later allegedly attacking the pair. Jeffrey Damnit, one of the men who was allegedly attacked, said LaBeouf was lunging at people and screaming: “You’re a f***ing f****t.”

Damnit claimed members of the public held LaBeouf on the ground while waiting for officers.

The initial police report said one of the men was punched “in his face with a closed fist causing his nose to possibly dislocate” and the victim “pushed his nose back into place”. The report went on to say he used the word “f****t” multiple times.

LaBeouf was charged with two counts of simple battery, according to authorities.

LaBeouf went to hospital for an unknown injury before going to the police station to be photographed. He was released from custody shortly after.

It’s not LaBeouf’s first time posing for the police camera. In 2015 he was arrested for public intoxication in Texas.

After his release, LaBeouf was spotted back on in New Orleans’ French Quarter partying, reported People. Videos online show him dancing with what looked like his release papers.

About 4.30am local time he posted a picture of himself on X wearing dark glasses and a multitude of colourful beaded necklaces with the words “free me”.

Damnit said he hopes police will add hate crime to the charge.

“Due to his fame, if he gets away without serious consequence, anyone who looks up to him or even just knows of him will think it is OK to do the same,” Damnit said.

“They will think you can call someone ‘f****t’, punch him a few times, get a free room for the night and be back out partying by noon the next day.”

The actor has spoken about his struggles with sobriety. Last May the actor talked to The Hollywood Reporter about Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, James Brolin supporting him through sobriety.

Last year, LaBeouf split from his partner Mia Goth. The pair share a child together. He has moved to Louisiana to be closer to family while Goth has stayed in Los Angeles.

LaBeouf is due in court on March 19.
