Selena – who has been running her own Rare Beauty brand since 2019 – previously opened up about her experience with another skin condition – acne – revealing it flares up when she gets stressed or becomes “lazy” with her skincare routine.
During an episode of Vogue’s Beauty Secrets, she explained: “I notice when I get stressed or something I break out more or I get lazy with my routine so I feel like it’s just become a part of it.
“And I just deal with whatever I got that day. When you are taking care of your skin you are taking care of your body and your mind and your soul just because I think it’s all connected.”
She also previously she no longer feels as if she has to wear make-up to feel beautiful.
In a 2020 essay for CNN, Selena explained: “I used to think I had to wear makeup in order to feel pretty, but now I understand that I don’t need make-up to feel beautiful. Now, I view makeup as an accessory and something to be excited about.
“There’s so much pressure to look a certain way and makeup is often used to hide or cover up perceived imperfections ... [I launched Rare Beauty] to challenge the beauty ‘norm’ by changing the conversation and celebrating what makes each of us unique.”
