KEY POINTS:
New Zealand hip-hop star Savage continued his ride to the top in America this week, as his hit single Swing cracked the million mark in digital download and mobile sales.
Just six months after TimeOut first reported Savage's first wave of stateside success, he has sold more than 1.1 million copies of his ass-shaking anthem - outselling hits by OMC and Crowded House.
The single, which first gained notoriety in America after it appeared in last year's hit comedy Knocked Up, has now made it to number 35 on the Billboard charts and gains regular radio play.
Savage sparked a four-way bidding war between major American record labels in May this year, after the track became a surprise hit. He eventually signed to Universal Republic, becoming label-mates with chart-toppers like Amy Winehouse and Jack Johnson.
Last month, Savage picked up a New Zealand Music Award for best international achievement - a prize shared with Flight of the Conchords - acknowledging the inroads he has made into the tough American music market.
Originally released on the 2005 album Moonshine, Swing will be re-released on Savage's debut international album Savage Island, due out this January.
