The Kiwi pop star Lorde performed new songs Green Light and ballad Liability for the first time on SNL - a weekend comedy show that averages more than 10 million
viewers.
The singer-songwriter's performances were introduced by this week's host, Scarlett Johanson, and was met with rapturous applause.
The songs are from her new album Melodrama due for release on June 16.
Her appearance quickly earned rave reviews from fans, who took to social media to call the new songs "heartfelt".
