"I think just because I've accepted that, if someone calls me a f*****, it's like, I am gay and I'm proud to be gay so there's no issues there. But if someone calls you fat, that's something I want to change."
"From a young age food has controlled me," he added elsewhere of his relationship with food.
"When I was at school and wasn't having a great time or when music wasn't going very well. I would eat, eat. Eating would make me feel better; when I felt lonely, I would eat."
Smith recently revealed the effects of his 6kg weight loss in 14 days via a series of posts on Instagram.
He credits nutritionist Amelia Freer, who advised him to follow a diet free from gluten, sugar and processed foods, for the change in his appearance. He also exercised a lot.
"Three weeks ago I met a woman who has completely changed my life," he wrote alongside one of the pictures. "Amelia Freer has helped me lose over a stone in 2 weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food."
"It's not even about weight loss it's about feeling happy in yourself. Love you Amelia & thank you for making me feel so happy inside and out @ameliafreer #eatnourishglow'"
Smith came out publically last year, after announcing that his album In The Lonely Hour was about a man he fell in love with.
