Action comedy Grimsby, which tells the story of an English football hooligan and his secret agent younger sibling, was savaged by critics.
The Colombia Pictures film failed despite having a star-studded cast that includes Mark Strong, Rebel Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Lovejoy legend Ian McShane and Fisher herself. The film had the worst box office performance of Cohen's career.
Sony's disappointed distribution chief Rory Bruer said: "We certainly wanted more. Sacha is amazing and we love him, and we tried to crack the code on it, but it just didn't happen for us."
The Joneses had an equally strong cast, boasting the likes of Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis but suffered the same fate, eking out $5.6 million on its opening weekend.

High-profile failure Ben-Hur narrowly missed making the list, as did much anticipated sequel Zoolander 2.
Last year, the biggest flop went to the Bill Murray-led Rock the Kabash, that only had a 19 per cent return.
