Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher both make list of 2016's biggest movie flops

They've both enjoyed plenty of success in their acclaimed careers.

But for married pair Isla Fisher, 40, and Sacha Baron Cohen, 45, 2016 was a year to forget as they both starred in films which bombed at the box office.

Cohen's Grimsby was ranked eighth on Forbes' Hollywood's Biggest Turkeys Of 2016 list, while Fisher's Keeping Up With The Joneses claimed sixth place.

The annual list by Forbes highlights the least profitable movies in Hollywood over the past year. That's the movies that made the least compared to how much it cost to make them. Other stars to see flops this year included Matthew McConaughey's Civil War drama Free State of Jones and Tina Fey's war biopic Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Action comedy Grimsby, which tells the story of an English football hooligan and his secret agent younger sibling, was savaged by critics.

The Colombia Pictures film failed despite having a star-studded cast that includes Mark Strong, Rebel Wilson, Penelope Cruz, Lovejoy legend Ian McShane and Fisher herself. The film had the worst box office performance of Cohen's career.

Sony's disappointed distribution chief Rory Bruer said: "We certainly wanted more. Sacha is amazing and we love him, and we tried to crack the code on it, but it just didn't happen for us."

The Joneses had an equally strong cast, boasting the likes of Jon Hamm and Zach Galifianakis but suffered the same fate, eking out $5.6 million on its opening weekend.

The action-comedy about a suburban couple who gets entangled in the world of international espionage, but the premise clearly failed to draw in viewers.

High-profile failure Ben-Hur narrowly missed making the list, as did much anticipated sequel Zoolander 2.

Last year, the biggest flop went to the Bill Murray-led Rock the Kabash, that only had a 19 per cent return.
