Rapper Terry Peck says he ditched $600 bill to help friend give birth

News broke yesterday about a man who racked up a $600 food bill and jumped into the ocean to get away with not paying it, and as if that story wasn't crazy enough, it gets better.

The man, now identified as up and coming Gold Coast rapper Terry Peck - a.k.a "2Pec" - has spoken out about why he did what he did and we did not see it coming.

Dining alone, Peck allegedly consumed two whole lobsters, six oysters, four Coronas and a baby octopus. He also ordered 21 oyster shooters and a vodka cocktail similar to a bloody mary.

"But he only consumed 15," manager Robert Rank reassured news.com.au when we contacted him.

This may go some way to explaining Peck's subsequent alleged decision to run from the restaurant and swim 50 metres into the ocean off Main Beach, where he hid underwater for a time before being fished out by police on a jetski.

Peck faced Southport Magistrate's Court this morning on two counts of obstructing police and one count of stealing. Informed of what he had eaten, Magistrate Joan White responded: "Oh God, by himself?"

Outside the court, Peck said he had run to the aid of a female friend who was about to have a baby on the beach but had mysteriously disappeared.

He also said he was attempting to have a rap battle with Eminem but so far the US rapper had declined his invitations.

Peck also reported that he was disappointed with the food at Omeros Bros, adding that he "wouldn't go back".

He said the food was "overpriced" and shocked the gathered media pack by declaring: "The lobster was a bit overcooked".

This crossed the line.

"It wouldn't have been overcooked," Mr Rank told news.com.au. "I'm pretty confident of that."

News.com.au can confirm that the lobsters cost $195 each. And Peck did, allegedly, order those 21 oyster sliders, totalling $157.50.

However according to the bill the half-dozen oysters were just $20.90, the baby octopus $18.50 and the Coronas only $8.50 each - fairly reasonable by high-end standards. News.com.au can also confirm Peck did not appear to leave a tip.

He was granted bail on the condition he reside at a property in Labrador and not attend Omeros Bros Seafood Restaurant while on bail.

He will return to court on May 4.
