Broods' Bridges. This is a true underdog story, a young brother and sister duo from the foothills of Richmond. They broke free from the stigma of being the winners of "Richmond Mall's Got Talent 2010" to become the second biggest breakout artist of the year behindshe-who-must-not-be-named.
Favourite TV show of 2014 and favourite moment from it
TV One's Breakfast. Almost too many highlights to choose from. Also Game of Thrones.
Not enough is being made of the fact that 2014 was the best year for New Zealand movies. There were so many good films that What We Do in the Shadows wasn't even nominated for best NZ film this year. Any other year it would have been given the Order of New Zealand Merit and one of Lorde's Grammys. I also thought The Dark Horse was fantastic. My favourite foreign film was The Grand Budapest Hotel. I hate when movies are described as "a visual feast" but this is a visual feast!
Best gig you went to - or wish you'd gone to
Snort Comedy (Basement Theatre, 10pm, Fridays) last Friday. I've been to Snort dozens of times before but when the wind hits their comedy sails just right it's better than Beyonce. I've never seen Beyonce do comedy but I'm guessing she'd be amazing at it.
I also saw Drake vs Lil Wayne at the Hollywood Bowl and it was heartbreaking because their show was funnier (both intentionally and unintentionally) than any comedy I've ever tried to do.
Most fascinating celebrity of 2014
Jesse Ryder bats in real-life like I bat in my dreams. He's the loose cannon cricketing genius that the Black Caps desperately need if they're going to pull off a miracle at the 2015 World Cup in New Zealand, but his off-the-field problems mean sports idiots treat him like a criminal. Let's embrace his quirks, help him with his problems and ride his talent to glory!
Guy Williams, comedian sidekick on TV3's Jono and Ben at Ten.
