Paris Hilton bonded with Britney Spears over the “trauma” they both experienced back in the 2000s – declaring it has made them both “so strong”.
The hotel heiress, 44, has been friends with the superstar singer for many years and she’s revealed they recently had a catch-up during a tripto Mexico for Spears’ birthday and they spoke about the harsh realities of living in the spotlight 20 years ago.
During an appearance on the I’ve Never Said This Before with Tommy DiDario podcast, the host asked Hilton if she has spoken to Spears about their “shared trauma” and she replied: “Yeah. I was just with Britney a few weeks ago for her birthday in Mexico and we were just talking about how cruel and mean-spirited people were back then.
“I feel like she is someone that can relate to that. There are very few people you can relate to on that level on experiencing that. It has made us both so strong.”
Hilton also spoke about her own experiences of life if in the limelight back then and admitted it felt very “isolating”.
She said: “Back then it was entertainment to tear down women. It was very isolating. Because not many people would even understand how it was to be treated that way. It was just so normalised. It was just a normal thing they would do.
“If I were to go back and speak to my younger self I would say: ‘Paris you’re going to go through a lot in life and sometimes it’s going to be so difficult and scary and hard. It’s going to be a lot but one day it’s going to be worth it because you’re going to inspire millions of people, you’re going to create a blueprint and turn your pain into your purpose and help save the lives of children and women and survivors all around the world.’
“And also don’t be afraid to show the world the real you. I wish I would have done that sooner.”
