She comes across as the epitome of style and eloquence, but Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o hasn't won any fans behind the scenes of a new Broadway production.
Sources have spoken out about the star's bratty behaviour on the set of Eclipsed, labelling her an "ice princess" and "manipulative bitch". Nyong'oalso stars in the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
The Daily Mail reports her co-stars Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh have found Nyong'o's attitude difficult to deal with.
"She declined all invitations to go out to lunch with her cast members and keeps to herself in the shared dressing room quarters while the ladies went out," a source told the Daily Mail.
"She even tried to get her own separate dressing room at The Public Theater, but the venue didn't have the space for it."
According to the report, she insists on security backstage thanks to claims she has a stalker, adding she requests solo media interviews despite the show being an ensemble piece.
"She's done everything she can to alienate herself from her co-stars," the source added.
Eclipsed executive producer Stephen C. Byrd wanted to see Nyong'o take the stage so badly, he's understood to be tolerating her bratty behaviour.
"Stephen paid her top dollar to be in this production. He's head over heels to have her in the show and has made it clear to everyone, whatever Lupita wants, she gets," the source said.
"He's assured her that this is her show and he'll move mountains to please her.
Nyong'o was also cast as pirate Maz Kanata in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, set for release in New Zealand on December 17.
Fellow actor Sengbloh left the production before the run was complete, without giving a reason for the early departure.
