Oscar-nominee Taraji P Henson announces engagement to former NFL star Kelvin Hayden

Empire star Taraji B Henson is engaged.

The Oscar-nominee took to social media to announce she's getting married to former NFL star Kelvin Hayden.

Taking to Instagram, Henson wrote: "I said yes y'all," alongside a photo showing off a massive sparkler. "He started with the Cartier love bracelet BUT that was my #Mothersday gift and then dropped to his knee and I almost passed out!!! #sheisofficiallyoffthemarket and she is sooooooooooooo HAPPY!!!!!!"

In December, Henson, 47, confirmed that she and Hayden, 34, had been dating for two years.

She also has an adult son, Marcell Johnson, from a previous relationship.

She recently told Essence magazine she was in a good place with her boyfriend. "I'm very happy. Everything is coming together. I'm happy in my personal life."

Hayden shared a photo with Henson having a glass of wine to his Instagram story over the weekend.

Henson has son Marcel Johnson, 24, from a previous relationship.

The actress was nominated for an Oscar in 2010 for her performance in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

The engagement news comes days after Henson's hit show Empire with Terrence Howard was renewed for a fifth season in the US.

Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn said in a statement that the program, which first hit the air in January of 2015, remains "as compelling, emotional and unpredictable as it ever was".

"We are so proud of our amazing cast, led by Terrence and Taraji, who deliver powerful performances week after week,' the executive said. 'We'd also like to thank our tremendous creative team ... whose inspired storytelling continues to create the unforgettable, jaw-dropping OMG moments that have always been signature to Empire."
