One Direction big winners at Social Star Awards

One Direction won four prizes at the inaugural Social Star Awards.

The boy band - comprised of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik - were awarded the gong for Most Popular Music Group at the ceremony and were also named Most Popular UK Musician, Most Popular in the UK and Most Popular in West Europe before the live show.

Accepting their award via video link, One Direction said: "We wanna say a massive thank you for the Best Social Star Group of the year award. Thank you for our Starcount award, and we will see you soon!"

Selena Gomez picked up the award for Most Popular Actor, Ellen DeGeneres won for Most Popular TV Show, FC Barcelona was named Most Popular Sports Team while Cristiano Ronaldo won Most Popular Sportstar at the awards which recognise the most popular celebrities in social media .

Justin Bieber, who picked up the Best Solo Artist award, said: "Thank you to all my fans that helped me win best solo artist. You guys are awesome!"

Carly Rae Jepsen, Sky Blu, Eric Benet, Blush and PSY all performed while Aerosmith sang a number of their greatest hits including Crying, Don't Want To Miss A Thing and Walk This Way with beat boxer Hikakin at the ceremony held at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
