“Unless I misunderstood, maybe it was on a dummy or something, but either way,” she said, “I can remove the lungs and the liver and the gallbladder and the intestines.”
Us Weekly reported Fallon pressed Kidman on how she absorbed information about autopsies and the human body so easily.
“Because it’s part of the job, and I worked with an incredible medical examiner, and I studied him,” she said.
Scarpetta, based on a series by crime novelist Patricia Cornwell, will also feature the acting talents of Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana DeBose, and fellow Aussie actor Simon Baker, best known for his starring role in The Mentalist.
“It’s a medical examiner who is coming back to her job after 30 years, and there’s a parallel story of the two crimes that have happened in present day and 30 years ago,” Kidman said of the series.
“That’s the beginning, and then there’s all the family drama. If you like crime thrillers, [this is for you ... and] there is a ton of people out there who like crime.”
According to InStyle Magazine, this is not the first time Kidman has “gone method” for a role.
In preparation for her 2018 film Destroyer, she reportedly took to living like an undercover police officer, adopting her character Erin Bell’s cantankerous personality, much to the chagrin of then-husband Keith Urban.
“I entered so deeply into her,” she explained.
“I don’t always do this with a character, but this one I had to because I didn’t want to feel like I was ever shifting into a performance. I stayed in character the whole time.”
Kiwi viewers will be able to watch Scarpetta on Amazon Prime Video from next Wednesday, March 11.
