Newsworthy presenter David Farrier quits TV3

Newsworthy host David Farrier has resigned from TV3, leaving his good friend and co-host Samantha Hayes to anchor the late night news programme on her own.

Farrier formally announced the news to colleagues this morning, before posting an announcement on social media.

In a statement, he said: "I've had a tremendous time with my colleagues on Newsworthy last year, I just feel so lucky to have worked with such talented friends. My personal highlights were kicking things off with Neil Finn in the studio, and wrapping last year up with comedians Tim & Eric, who are personal heroes of mine."

The former Nightline reporter has been working on a documentary feature film about competitive tickling, called Tickled, which is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival later this month.

"I'll be working on getting Tickled out there, this documentary I've been working on for the last two years. I'm starting with Sundance next week, so packing lots of very warm clothes. I am mainly hoping to get Robert Redford's signature for my mum."

Farrier began his career at TV3 behind the scenes as an autocue operator, before moving on camera as an entertainment reporter for Nightline.

Known for his quirky sense of humour and a love of cryptozoology, Farrier made headlines in 2009 when he embarked on a hunt for the Mongolian death worm.

He also starred alongside Rhys Darby in the comedy series Short Poppies.
