New Plymouth galloper Call Me Zeus is under an injury cloud and will miss the $25,000 Foxbridge Plate (1400m) at Te Rapa.
The Zephyr Ace five-year-old was runner-up behind Zabeel's Angel in the Opunake Cup at his last start and was one of fancied runners for the Foxbridge Plate.
"He galloped on Tuesday and must have burst a blood vessel in one leg," trainer John Wheeler said yesterday.
Wheeler initially thought the horse broke down as there was inflammation around the suspensory ligament.
"But I've had it scanned and the vet is pretty sure there's no damage."
Wheeler said it was now a matter of backing off and giving the blood time to disperse.
"It's just an internal bleed and just has to settle down. I'll give him a week to get over it before I do anything with him. We'll see where we go then."
