Kendrick Lamar has a message for non African-American fans ahead of his upcoming New Zealand shows: whatever you do, don't rap the n-word.
It should go without saying, but the rap superstar was forced to halt a recent show in Alabama when a white female fan he invited onstage to rap with him, repeatedly - and unapologetically - rapped the n-word in one of Lamar's tracks.
The fan was performing Lamar's 2012 hit M.A.A.D. City but used the highly offensive racial slur too many times, prompting audible shock from the crowd and forcing Lamar to stop the music and cut her off.
The bemused fan asked: "Am I not cool enough for you? What's up, bro? You gotta work with me."
Lamar explained: "You got to bleep one single word, though."
She replied: "Oh, I'm sorry. Did I do it? I'm so sorry. I'm used to singing it like you wrote it."
Lamar gave her a second chance to rap, but the crowd was less forgiving - and so was Twitter:
Lamar, a Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize winner, is coming to New Zealand to play three shows this July.
He'll play Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium on July 17 the Auckland's Spark Arena on July 19 and 20.
