One of New Zealand's most prolific actors will star as Macbeth in Shakespeare's tragedy at Auckland's Pop-up Globe.
Stephen Lovatt, known for his work in Resolve, Ash v Evil Dead, Top of the Lake and Neighbours will join Shortland Street star Amanda Billing, who will play the wicked Lady Macbeth.
Lovatt, a recipient of the Shakespeare's Globe International Fellowship, was last on the stage in Auckland as Victor Bellavicta in Rob Tapert's production of Pleasuredome.
But right now, he's preparing for bloody battle in the Scottish tragedy on the 360-degree stage at the Pop-up Globe.
The cast also features Jess Holly-Bates, Romy Hooper and Greg Johnson from Shortland Street as well as Matu Ngaropo from The Lion King - Australian Tour.
Season 3 of the Pop-up Globe, which began on December 7, features five of The Bard's plays: Macbeth, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Julius Caesar and The Comedy of Errors.
The Pop-up Globe is a three-storey, 16-sided, 900-person capacity theatre located at the Ellerslie Racecourse.
It combines scaffold technology with a 400-year-old design to simulate plays in the 1600s.
