The rumours are true: Sir Paul McCartney will play his first New Zealand show in a very long time this December.
The Beatles legend and solo star will perform at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on December 16 - his first show here since 1993.
The show, part of McCartney's One By One world tour, was first rumoured through a Facebook post by Frontier Touring on Monday.
McCartney took part in a live Facebook Q&A last night to confirm his Australasian section of the tour, which also includes dates in Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.
The star said of the announcement: "We've been waiting to get back to Australia and New Zealand for years and now it's finally happening. It is very exciting.
"I'm really looking forward to the concerts as we've always had such a brilliant time whenever we've been before so we know we are in for a treat. Can't wait to see you and all rock out together".
Reviews for the tour, which kicked off in 2016, have been well receieved, with PopMatters reporting that, "in spite of the size of the venues, McCartney and his music forge a personal connection with each and every one in the audience".
Recent setlists show he plays plenty of Beatles hits, including Can't Buy Me Love, A Hard Day's Night, We Can Work It Out and Eleanor Rigby, as well as Wings songs and his solo material.
Pre-sales for the show begin via paulmccartney.com and Frontier Members on June 29, and go on general release on July 4.
