Rapper Coolio has been arrested at Los Angeles' international airport after he and his entourage tried to take a loaded gun on to a plane.

The Gangsta's Paradise hitmaker and his team were leaving LA on Saturday when they were flagged by the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) as one of their bags appeared to contain a loaded gun, TMZ reports.

At first, Coolio's bodyguard claimed possession of the bag but once officials checked it, it became clear it belonged to the rapper.

Coolio had already managed to board the plane and had to be taken off the flight for questioning, at which point he apparently confessed to owning the bag.

According to TMZ, the firearm was determined to be stolen, and Coolio was booked for possession of a firearm by a felon.

Coolio was arrested - also at LAX - in 2009 on felony drug charges when he was found to be in possession of cocaine.

He was sentenced to 18 months in rehab in lieu of jail time after he struck a plea deal struck in an LA court.
