US rapper Nicki Minaj has slammed her ex-boyfriend Safaree Samuels for allegedly suing her for emotional and physical abuse.

The former lovers split in 2014 after 12 years together and have since had a number of acrimonious public exchanges.

Now Minaj, 33, claims she was served with a lawsuit by representatives for Safaree a day after celebrating her current boyfriend Meek Mill's birthday.

"Tweeted on the 5th that the 6th was my baby's bday (sic). Celebrated on the 6th for his bday (publicly). Served w/a lawsuit on the 9th," Minaj tweeted.

"Two years later this poor excuse of a man (Safaree) is suing me & claiming to have been physically & emotionally abused. Lol (laugh out loud). He's so miserable."

Minaj went on to allege that Mill, 29, had asked Safaree to stop continuously emailing the singer.

"My man asked him to stop emailing me," she writes.

"I also asked him several times. This man can't move on. It's really sad. I have the emails to prove it."
