Harry Potter fans hold on to your hats, the new trailer for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is out - and does not disappoint.

The first full trailer for the film premiered at the MTV Music Awards yesterday (NZT), with English actor Eddie Redmayne - who stars in the lead role - popping out of a suitcase on stage to present it.

From a familiar-sounding and equally-as-magical opening score, to wand duels, kitchen items floating under spell, and plenty of exotic and mystical creatures, the trailer has everything a diehard Harry Potter fan could hope for.

The new story is set in 1920s New York - decades before Harry Potter is born - and is a prequel of sorts.

It is still based on the Harry Potter novels by author J.K. Rowling and is adapted for the big screen from her textbook of the same name.

Fantastic Beasts focuses on wizard writer Newt Scamander (Redmayne), who has been expelled from Hogwarts and is seeking a new adventure.

The movie follows Scamander as he explores the hidden wizarding world of the United States.

Hogwarts teacher, Albus Dumbledore gets a mention in the trailer and the film, which also stars Colin Farrell, is expected to be released in November.
