Supermodel and reality TV queen Tyra Banks has announced she is a mother, welcoming a baby boy named York, born via surrogate.

Posting a photo of a baby's beanie on Instagram, Banks wrote of her joy at finally becoming a mother, much to the surprise of her fans and media.

"The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He';s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik's mouth and chin. The America's Next Top Model host has previously opened up about her fertility struggle, telling People magazine she underwent IVF before turning to surrogacy.

"I've had some not happy moments with that, very traumatic moments," she said in an interview last year. "It's difficult as you get older. It's not something that can just happen."

The 42-year-old is said to want more children, telling People: "I don't just want one child. I want a litter!"
