A circus promising to show off one of the most complex stunts ever created is coming to town.

With a cast of award-winning athletes and former Cirque du Soleil stars, Le Noir plans to have the Colombian Wheel of Death - dual acrobats in spinning wheels performing tricks above the auditorium - in action at its upcoming Auckland shows.

Le Noir: The Dark Side of Cirque is described as a "surreal, beautiful, seductive and hilariously risque" show and will be held at The Civic from October 28, with two shows on Saturday and Sunday.

Christchurch show dates will be announced soon.

It's described as a chance to see a circus show in intimate surroundings, with custom-built seating offering a 360-degree view of the stage.

Producer Simon Painter says they want the audience as close to the action as possible.

"Part of the concept is to make the audience experience the show rather than just watch it, and a number of sophisticated special effects are employed to make this possible."

• Tickets for the Auckland shows go on sale on August 20 through Ticketmaster.
