Banshee, the hardboiled American crime series which stars New Zealand actor Antony Starr in its lead role, has been cancelled.
The Hollywood Reporter says that the show's forthcoming fourth 2016 series will be the last for its US broadcaster Cinemax.
The first three seasons screened in New Zealand on Sky's SoHo channel.
That finishes Starr's run as Lucas Hood, the ex-con who fakes his way into the sheriff's job of the Pennsylvanian town of Banshee but remains a target for the mobsters he ripped off as well as meting out tough justice to the quiet town's surprising number of criminal factions.
The show has been become known for its pulp violence, lengthy fight scenes and frequent nudity, all helping build it an international cult following.
Starr told TimeOut earlier this year he hoped it would last a possible five seasons.
But it appears the series producers have decided otherwise and are reportedly preparing an epic finish to the fourth season which has been shooting in recent months in and around Pittsburgh.
