I'm going to say it right now: I'm not going to see the cheesy-snore-fest Twilight-fan-fiction film Fifty Shades of Grey. But I will have the motion picture's soundtrack on repeat. It is sexier than the movie will ever be, by far.
The soundtrack features a collection of artists from Beyonce to Ellie Goulding to AWOLNATION and even features Frank Sinatra's classy swing song Witchcraft.
Annie Lennox's passionate and bluesy version of I Put a Spell on You is followed up by R'n'B slow jams by The Weeknd (Earned It) and Jessie Ware (Meet Me in the Middle).
Love Me Like You Do by British pop star Elli Goulding lightens the album, while Sia's ghostly Salted Wound brings a sweetly solemn element to the record. The mix of warbled bass and gently strummed guitar on I'm On Fire (AWOLNATION) works beautifully.
Watch the music video for Haunted by Beyonce:
Beyonce's cool and haunting reworking of her 2003 hit Crazy In Love is one of the album's most tantalising tracks. The song's simple piano swells into an intense orchestral ensemble that oozes drama. Haunted from Beyonce's latest album, is equally as fitting for the Fifty Shades soundtrack.
Definitely an album worth dimming the lights to, so to speak.
Fifty Shades of Grey OST
Verdict: Sexier than the movie.
