New TV3 current affairs show gets funding

A new current affairs show on TV3 that bills itself as a "bold voice in Maori current affairs" has received NZ On Air funding.

Former Native Affairs host Mihingarangi Forbes will host the show, which has a working title Minority Reports, and will screen on Sunday mornings.

The producers have promised "current affairs investigations, arts, and culture stories seen through an indigenous lens".

Funded by Te Mangai Paho and NZ on Air's Platinum Fund, it is also supported by TV3.

"We believe there is audience demand for specialist television current affairs," said NZ On Air chief executive Jane Wrightson.

"Our support through the Platinum Fund is acknowledgement that this is important content, and difficult for broadcasters alone to support."
Long-running current affairs shows The Nation and Q + A will also return next year, on TV3 and TV One respectively.

TV3's investigative journalism show 3D was axed this year. Its final episode aired last night.
